Free software extensions to proprietary software
Although the following software packages are legally free software by thesmelves, they are practically only capable of operating in conjunction with proprietary software. In the software industry, culturally this type of software would usually not be considered free software due to their dependency on proprietary software. However, we are happy to document them here to help demonstrate the impact and reach of open source.

|BCFier||See also Revit extensions. Create and open BIM Collaboration Format (BCF) files directly within Autodesk Revit. With BCFier you can create issues of 3D and 2D* views, add multiple views and comments to an issue and easily share them with other team members. BCFier also features a standalone Windows app that lets you review BCF files without the need of third party tools.||GPL-3.0|
|BridgeLink||BridgeLink is a suite of open source bridge engineering software tools. These tools are heavily dependent on Microsoft Visual Studio, ATL and MFC libraries, and Objective Grid (a third-party grid control). For this reason BridgeLink is listed here. The BridgeLink suite consists of Barlist for estimating reinforcement steel quantities, BEToolbox a collection of utility programs including biaxial column analysis and pretensioned girder lateral stability analysis, PGSuper for design, analysis, and load rating of precast, prestressed concrete bridge girder superstructures, PGSplice for design and load rating of precast, post-tensioned spliced bridge girder superstructures using non-linear time-step analysis, and XBeamRate for load rating reinforced concrete pier cross beams. |XbimXplorer||XbimXplorer is a Windows-only viewer capable of loading IFC2x3 and IFC4 models, and has a modular infrastructure to load plugins. Features include IFC Schema Validation, Querying syntax for data extraction, IFC stripping and Federated model loading (beta, with known issues).||CDDL|
